Connections between healing and the importance of our environmental surroundings are demonstrated through the site improvements associated with the Harrell Medical Education building at the University of Florida.

The Harrell Medical Education Building at the University of Florida includes student recruitment and medical education labs and classrooms for the UF School of Medicine. Inside teaching labs, meeting rooms, and learning studios with high tech simulators provide opportunities for students to gain state-of-the-art medical education. The surrounding site design by Conner preserves a historically important 78-inch Live Oak tree, shielding the building from direct sun and shading an outdoor gathering space. Under the canopy of the tree, mulch beds and plantings were carefully placed to encourage casual gathering without damaging the tree. Bio-swales were incorporated into the design to capture and treat rainwater from the courtyard and passenger drop off areas.
