University of South Florida St. Petersburg

The University Student Center at USFSP reflects the university’s focus on environmental engagement and awareness. Conner’s design creates a series of rain gardens integrated with outdoor seating areas, utilizing water from rooftops as natural irrigation.

The University Student Center reflects the university’s academic focus on environmental sciences through the integration of sustainable landscape architectural design solutions. The University of South Florida, St. Petersburg campus, is a stone’s throw from Tampa Bay which leads out to the Gulf of Mexico and boasts breathtaking waterfront views.

Conner’s design emphasizes the environmental protection of natural resources and embraces the waterfront community. A series of elevated rain garden planters surround the building and filter rooftop rainwater to reduce the demand on the urban site for storm water storage. Three expansive covered terraces provide shade for outdoor dining and gathering, and a community lawn allows for student assemblies, large parties, and organized entertainment.
