In 2016, the city of Sarasota embarked on an effort to create a more distinct identity for Paul Thorpe Jr. Park (formerly Pineapple Park). The 6,600 square foot park in the middle of downtown features an iconic fountain that has defined the park for over 25 years. When approaching the new design for the park, Conner consulted the residents of the area and relied heavily on their input. The new master plan calls for reshaping the park around the signature mermaid fountain that sits in the center, and includes more trees and plants, as well as seating near the fountain. It also removes the curbs along Lemon Avenue, creating another plaza area for events in the street.
