p.k. yonge developmental research school

University of Florida

Creating opportunities for environmental learning in the surrounding landscape was the central driver for this University of Florida educational research school.

Established in 1934, P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School is a public school affiliated with the University of Florida located in a residential neighborhood near the campus. The school serves approximately 1150 students from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

The project includes the construction of a new 3 story middle and high school Learning Communities Building. The site surrounding the new P.K. Yonge middle and high school provides a natural setting for experiencing environmental changes and ecology taught inside the building. The landscape architectural design incorporates interactive teaching and learning stations for students to experience and interact with natural ecosystems as part of their daily experience.
